InterCloud Systems Pioneers New Cloud Service Model - Proof of Concept-as-a-Service

FREMONT, CA: InterCloud Systems, provider of end-to-end IT and next-generation network solutions devises a new cloud service model called ‘Proof of Concept-as-a-Service’ (POCaaS) to assist companies test and validate the emerging networking technologies before deploying them for production. The respective platform allows companies to prove concepts based on modern, emerging software-defined networking (SDN) and network functions virtualization (NFV) technologies in the provided lab environment.  

InterCloud Systems coined the term ‘SDN/NFV Proof of Concept-as-a-Service’ with reference to the increasing demand and necessity for ‘as-a-service’ solutions which adds to its list of services extended, such as Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) and Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS).

"Setting up an SDN-POC is a major project in itself. We want to expedite the process for our customers by offering POC-as-a-Service and saving them valuable time in setting up the entire lab and going through months of expensive designs and installations," points out InterCloud CEO Mark Munro.

InterCloud interprets that the concept of overlay networking, service chaining, automation and open orchestration for virtualized compute, network and storage resources is extremely complex and needs to be thoroughly tested and managed in a lab environment by qualified engineers. The need for testing SDN and NFV in a lab environment also creates an issue for its customers around limited human resources, budgets and timelines to deliver new IT initiatives. According to the company, POCaaS eliminates these barriers offering a ‘pay as you go model’ of service.

The company also extends a team of qualified engineers to deploy testing projects.  As a Phase 1 deployment, the service for now is available for OpenStack and Juniper Networks Open Contrail SDN in their physical and virtual infrastructure.

With a guaranteed uninterrupted access, the service works through a web portal where the customers stipulate the start date for their testing, followed by a setup guide. InterCloud has opened a trial portal for free lab and tutorial registration for those who want to try out the service.
